How It Got Started
The Roots
For us, sprouting means to start something new, the beginnings of a new chapter. In a sense, we intend for this blog to be my breath of fresh air -- a chance to escape, to learn and to grow.
Over half a decade ago, the brewing urge for creativity is where our collective growth began. Friends since summer 2015, our paths intertwined while enrolled at a Franco-Ontarian led summer camp. At the time, we never realized then that we had been planting the seeds for a greater journey – one that has certainly not been linear. Over the years, despite living in different cities, attending different schools, disconnecting and reconnecting; our 2015 beginnings held its strong roots. As young teens, we had tapped into our creativity by developing various projects asked of us. Today, we are ready to lead ourselves by continuing what was started years ago, in a completely new form. Coming together in 2021, we have created Sprouted to share our truths, perspectives, and most of all – our evolution.

Who We Are
Get to Know Us

Véronique Armstrong
I am a woman of many passions… who is ready to take up space. My goals are usually tied to my love for politics as a university student, a position which has allowed me to become the writer and pupil that I am today. My identity sprawls out in so many different directions, which explains the tinge of ambiguity I bring to all the labels I encompass: Black, French Canadian, Nova Scotian, Jamaican. I want all of the positions I hold to nourish me as not only a learner, but a teacher. I believe we all have something to teach one another, and I hope to share the knowledge and stories I’ve gained as I walk through this lifetime to serve others as they have served me.

Sings to the Forest
My identity is ever-changing, and how I describe myself is consistently evolving. At the forefront I am, an avid history lover, graffiti artist, activist and most importantly a cat-mom. I am Métis and Trinidadian, and constantly changing how I define myself. Aside from this, I am also a student. I take pride in constantly learning. I believe that no matter our age or circumstance we are able to constantly gain new knowledge, whether it be through institutions, methods of story-telling or learning from our lands.
